The race for survival

THE survival race in the Renault Senior Football Championship is looking like it will go right down to the wire with four of the five teams involved currently on two points and Bray Emmets sitting on top of the group with four points.

A win for the Bray men in their next game, on Sunday, October 22, against Tinahely, is vital and would guarantee their safety.

However, a slip up there would see Tinahely join them on four points and either Annacurra or Newtown will also have collected four points (barring a draw) when they meet on the previous Friday night in Rathnew in what should be a belter of a game with Newtown seeing off Coolkenno last weekend and Annacurra powering past Bray in Pearse’s Park by 1-14 to 0-08.

In the Intermediate grade, the men of Aughrim and An Tochar have made the drop to Junior after very disappointing campaigns for both clubs.

This weekend there are two very exciting finals in Pearse’s Park on Saturday.

the opening game will be the Junior C football final between Ashford and Tinahely.

Both these teams have provided some excellent entertainment with Tinahely emerging after a replay battle with Donard-The Glen and Ashford coming through a thriller against Kilcoole.

Tinahely’s David Dillon and Ray McGlynn will be two key men for their side come the final while the Conyards and Danny Byrne will be critical for the Ashford endeavour.

Follwing that game, the men of Rathnew’s Intermediate side will take on AGB in the SFL Division 2 final. The Timmons Cup is the prize on offer here and both sides will be going hell for leather in a bid to end the seaosn on a high.

Knockananna and Coolboy meet in Division 3 on Sunday for a place in the Johnny Fox Cup final.
