Gardening gurus pick up awards
THE recent Arklow success in the national Tidy Towns competition was celebrated at a function at Arklow Library recently during which the local garden competition awards were presented.
As well as celebrating the six-point increase, Arklow Tidy
Towns, acknowledged the contribution of local people in making the town as beautiful as possible.
In the ‘Front garden’ category, the top awards were won by Pachy O’Neill and Joe English while The Blue Cafe picked up the top prize in the ‘Retail unit’ category, with honourable mentions for The Bridge Hotel, The Man’s Shop and The Midway.
The winners of the Garden competition were as follows:
Fiona Wynne, Roy and Marie Dempsey, Inez Hogan, James and Angela Dowling, George Wynne, The Keogh Family, Nancy Quinn, Bernie and John O’Keeffe.
The evening also saw awards presented to the photographic competition winners. This section was sponsored by First Choice Pharmacy and the winners were as follows: Breda Mc Donald, Aoife Gregory, Ciaran Daey, Shannon O’Shea, John O Brien, Stephen Walsh, Thomas Clare, Louise Byrne, Ethan Duffy, Liam Lynch, Helen Catherine Doyle, Emma O’Reilly and Danny Keogh.
Entitled ‘Arklow in Colour’, this category received a huge amount of entries including wildlife and sunrise/sunset vistas showing Arklow at its best.
