Eco-House creating homes to comply with new regulations

-

WITH the implementation of the most significant step change in Irish building regulations on the horizon, sustainable homes developer Eco-House is showcasing its ability to deliver ultra energy-efficient homes at its showhouse at the Glen of the Downs.

The team at Eco-House has focused its energy into creating attractive homes that are not only beyond energy-efficient, but are also sustainable and have a low carbon footprint in preparation for Ireland’s NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) standards. The company aims to deliver houses which significantly surpass the building regulations and standards set by NZEB regulations by integrating the latest in architectural design with renewable energy production and suitable storage systems.

‘There are several reasons that NZEB adds value and has many benefits other than being friendlier to the environment. Comfortable uniform temperatures year round, energy efficiency (which is of concern with increased electricity and gas rates), reliability, greater resale value, and protection from future carbon emission tariffs and penalties. Over the length of building ownership there is a considerable saving to be had versus the up front cost of the build,’ said Eco-House MD Terry Hutt.

The new regulations will be applied to all new buildings by December 31, 2020. Covering dwellings specifically, Part L has an advanced energy and carbon dioxide emissions performance, in addition to mandatory renewables – 60 per cent better than the 2005 Regulations.
