Carnew fight back to earn win in Wexford

LFA Junior Cup

Carnew AFC booked their place in the third round of the Leinster Junior Cup after coming from behind to beat Wexford outfit Shelburne 2-1.

Denis Murray gave the hosts the lead in their match at Ballywilli­am, but goals from Cillian Gilligan and P.J. O’Keeffe sent the Wicklow side through.

Andy McEvoy Premier 1

Newtown United and St. Peter’s are deadlocked at the top of the Andy McEvoy Premier Division after both recorded victories at the weekend.

The Magpie eased past Arklow Celtic 4-0, with Ryan Cahill netting a double and Seán Heffernan and Matthew Kennedy adding a goal apiece.

Jamie Kelly scored twice for St Peter’s as they overcame FC Locomotiv 3-1 in the Phoenix Park, with Seán Devlin getting their other goal.

Roundwood FC also returned from the capital with three points, beating Dynamo Dublin 4-2 thanks to goals from Keane Murphy (two), Patrick Woods and Damian Hanlon,

A late Brian Coen volley earned Ashford Rovers a share of the spoils after a 3-3 draw with Tallaght City.

The Dubliners were two goals to the good at the break, but Ashford stormed back to level through a Danny Byrne penalty and an own goal.

Tallaght got their noses back in front, however, but Coen rescued a point with an eye-catching late equaliser.

Pat O’Toole Division 1B

Arklow United stunned high-flying Templeogue United with four goals in the opening 22 minutes, before eventually prevailing 4-2 in their Pat O’Toole Division 1B encounter.

Jay Snell opened the Arklow side’s account early on and Jonny Quinn soon doubled their advantage.

Zach Kilbride then got in on the act, before Quinn bagged his second from the penalty spot.

The visitors managed to pull two goals back but Arklow comfortabl­y held them at bay thereafter to collect the points.

Rathnew came out on top in a seven-goal thriller with Ashford Rovers, with Jordan Quinn, Stewart Murphy (two) and Kyle Devlin scoring for the Village and Ashford replying with a Luke Sheridan double and a Naoise Treacy goal.

St. Patrick’s and Greystones drew 2-2, with Eugene Dunne and Adam Browne scoring for the Avoca men and the prolific Anthony Fermoyle replying with a double.

Richard ‘Chico’ Murphy got the goal for Wicklow Town in their 3-1 loss to Glencormac United, while elsewhere Bohs Supporters Club beat Frankfort FC 7-0 and Knockmitte­n United overwhelme­d Old Court Celtic 4-0.

Division 3

Division 3 leaders Arklow United were in fine form on Sunday as they hit a magnificen­t seven against Avonmore.

The Arklow outfit ran out 7-3 winners, with Luke Walker and Mark Nolan both scoring doubles and Anthony Kelly, Alan Earls and Drew O’Halloran also getting in on the act. Daniel Sheehan (two) and Harrison Penn replied for Avonmore.

Paddy Murphy, Dean Corkish and Seán O’Brien got the goals for Wicklow Town as they won 3-1 away to Aughrim Rangers, with Shane O’Keeffe replying, while Kevin Murray and Scott Meaney hit the back of the net for Shamrock Celtic as they overcame Arklow Celtic 2-0.

Conary United and Carnew AFC came away with a point apiece after a 2-2 draw, with Stephen Roche (penalty) and David Doran scoring for the former and John Kavanagh and Wayne Kinsella replying.

LFA Youths Cup

There was joy in Kildare for the two Wicklow outfits in action in the LFA Youths Cup first round on Saturday, as Arklow United and Ashford Rovers both chalked up wins on their travels.

Dean Flood-Hayes and Dan Doyle got the goals for the Arklow side as they edged out Kynog United 2-1, while Rovers won 2-0 in Monasterev­an, with Ryan Beale and Oisin Hill getting on the scoresheet.

John Tobin Youth League

Avonmore FC continued their perfect start to their John Tobin Youth League campaign with a 7-2 win over Wicklow Rovers A on Saturday.

Oisin McGraynor hit the back of the net four times for the winners, with Mark Cullen, Ryan Kenny and Callum Busher also getting in on act.

Seán Farrell and Nathan Sullivan replied for Rovers.
