Mixed bag of results for Bray
IT was a mixed bag of results for Bray Hockey Club this weekend with all but the Mens 1sts and Ladies 3rds in action.
Due to Storm Brian, mid-term, Halloween and all sorts of other issues there has been a gap in the fixtures for the club sides.
On Saturday, the Mens 2nds welcomed YMCA to Loreto for a Division 7 fixture.
A strong outing for the lads with a comprehensive 4-0 win over the Sandymount side.
Club stalwart Graham Codd opened the scoring, with Sam Collier netting two and Simon Anglin closing out the game with the fourth.
On Sunday the 2nds travelled to Enniscorthy.
Steven Stewart opened the scoring, however Enniscorthy pulled one back in the dying minutes, leaving the Bray side travelling home with just one point, however topping the Division 7 table after a successful weekend.
The Mens 2nds will travel to East Glendalough next Saturday (11th) for the always enjoyable local derby against Wicklow 3rds at10a.m.
On the Ladies side, the Ladies 4ths hosted the UCD students. Tola Adebisi scored the only goal of the match, giving Bray a much-needed three points to put them in 3rd place in Division 11.
The 4ths travel to Belfield on Saturday to take on the higher ranked UCD 7ths in the Division 11/12 Cup.
The newly-formed Ladies 5ths travelled to Stillorgan to play against the Genesis 7ths.
A strong and very experienced side were too much for the developing Bray side who sadly lost 1-5.
They meet again in the Division 11/12 Cup this Saturday in Bray at 2 p.m.
The 5ths also play on Tuesday night (7th) against Portrane in a league fixture at 8.30pm in TempleCarrig.
On the last of the Saturday fixtures, the Ladies 2nds travelled to Lucan for a highly-contested fixture against Weston.
Unfortunately, they were unable to convert in numerous chances and came home with a 0-0 draw and one point.
The 2nds are sitting comfortably in 4th place of Division 4 with a busy week of fixtures ahead.
On Wednesday night they welcome Skerries to TempleCarrig for a league fixture at 8.30 p.m. and on Saturday they are in the cup action against Genesis at 12 p.m. in Loreto.
On Sunday, the Ladies 1sts were in action against Pembroke 2nds in Division 2.
After a long break from matches and missing a number of key players, the 1sts struggled to find their form against a fluid Pembroke side.
Megan Shelley scored a lovely penalty corner in the first half which closed out at 3-1 to the visitors, but their strength proved too much for Bray and Pembroke went home with a comprehensive 6-1 win and three points in the bag, leaving Bray bottom of the division and a lot of work to do for the coming weekend when they welcome Division 2 table toppers and last year’s Division 3 rivals Naas to TempleCarrig at 1.30 p.m.
The coming weekend sees the Ladies Vets back in action at 8.30 p.m. on Friday in Bray as they host Loreto.
The M1s will play YMCA away on Saturday a time yet to be confirmed and the Ladies 3rds have a double weekend of matches ahead as the continue to strive for league glory.
On Saturday they meet Naas at 10 a.m. in Loreto and on Sunday they host Our Lady’s at 5 p.m. in TempleCarrig.
