Dr Patrick Wallace gave a wonderful lecture this week to our local history society. In 1974, at the age of 25, Dr Wallace was given responsibility for the Wood Quay excavations. The National Museum displays Archaeological treasures from the Viking and Medieval periods, early Medieval Celtic Metalwork and numerous ancient treasures from Ireland and abroad.

Attention now turns to the final lecture of 2017 which will take place on Tuesday, December 5, in the Glenview Hotel at 8 p.m. Titled ‘The Bridges of Wicklow’, it will be presented by Rob Goodbody and it promises to bring a fitting end to another great season of interesting lectures.

SOCCER ACTION

The Under 10s lost a thrilling game 4-3 away to Wicklow Rovers. This was a very even game and the Glens had their chances to win it but it was not to be. Jude Leahy hit two goals with Oran Finnerty netting the other. Oisin Short, Joe Kavanagh and Beibhinn Lavery all had great games but the “Man of the Match Award” must go to Cian Levins who played fantastic. The team are improving every week with coaches Prendergast & Finnerty delighted with the progress.

The Under 12’s played St Patricks of Avoca who are an under 13 side but more than held their own before losing 2-1. The goal was scored by Ben Morgan and manager Alan Prendergast was thrilled with the effort put in by all his squad on the day.

The Seniors were at home to Wicklow Town on Sunday morning and won 3-1. Nathan Watters gave the Glens the lead which they held until midway through the 2nd half when they conceded a soft goal following a corner. However, young Sam O’Callaghan is becoming a freekick specialist and he powered a lovely goal to the back of the net with 5 minutes remaining and then Cian McGoldrick sealed the win with an overhead kick. Nathan Watters and Simon Doyle were excellent on the day.
