Possession of cannabis Intimidation charge

-

A Carnew man who was charged with the unlawful possession of drugs has been described in court as ‘more of a nuisance than a danger to people’.

Noel Hogan of 28 Emmet Place was charged with having the drugs, namely €20 of cannabis, on October 29, 2016 at his home address.

Solicitor Pauric Hyland said that his client was of no fixed abode but had an address at the family home in Carnew.

He said that a probation report would be helpful to the court.

Judge Kennedy ordered such a report and adjourned the matter to February 14, 2018.

Jurisdiction was refused in the case of two defendants charged in connection with an alleged incident in Avoca last year.

Bernadette Higgins of 13 Summerfield, Arklow, is accused of intimidation of a witness, criminal damage and trespass at Conary Lower, Avoca, on December 12, 2016 while Noel Keane of 27 Griffith Street is charged of threatening to kill or cause serious harm also at Conary Lower.

The matter was adjourned to December 20 for the preparation of a book of evidence.
