GAA CLUB NOTES

Newtown’s last juvenile team of the season were in action recently when the under-13s played their shield final against Tinahely, finishing scoreline was Newtown 7-6 Tinahely 4-0.

It was a great way to finish off a long season for the under-13s in Ballinakill, Newtown started really well and we’re well on top in the first half and went in at half time with a lead of 5-3 to 2-0 getting some good scores considering the strong crossfield breeze.

Scoring was tighter in the second half but we were strong in defence and never looked like giving up our lead. Captain on the day Luke Breen accepted the shield on behalf of the team while Shane Dunleavy had the honour of being awarded Wicklow People player of the match.

Overall it was an impressive team display with every player contributing well to the cause. Team and scorers on the day were: Seán Bishop, Paudie Gammell, Shane Synnott, Marcel Kocjada, Adam Hussey, Luke Breen, Aaron Killick (1-0), Charlie Sullivan (0-1), Daragh Heffernan (12), Shane Dunleavy (2-2), Bobby Dowling (1-0), Ryan McMahon (0-1), Adam Martin and Mason Melia (2-0).

While Jason Carthy, Martin Kelly, Ryan Clarke, Jack Coughlan and Matthew Cooley have played all season but were unable to play today due to injuries, well done to the lads and Peter, Ruairi, Googers and Dean.
