MASS FOR LOVED ONES

The annual Mass for deceased members of the Kilmacanogue GAA Club will take place on Friday, November 25, at 8 p.m. This is always a very special Mass to remember dear friends sadly no longer with us and it is hoped a large crowd will attend the Mass in St Mochonog’s Church. The much loved Fr Ben Mulligan will once again celebrate the Mass and as we all know, Fr Ben has lost many teammates and dear friends over the years and loves seen you all present on the night.

HAPPY 50TH KATHLEEN

It is hard to believe we know but Kathleen Tighe has turned 50 years young and celebrated in style with a party in Plucks on Saturday night. Kathleen is a fantastic ‘Community Person’ that supports and promotes everything that is run in our village and is really proud of her community and we would like to wish her every best wish on this milestone and best wishes for the next 50 Kay. A special wish comes from your husband Justin, your three boys Alan, Kevin and Carl and your little princess Nicole and from your neighbours and many friends.

GOLF SOCIETY

The final outing for the Plucks Golf Society members took place in Powerscourt Golf Club last Saturday. Despite the heavy overnight rain, the course was in fantastic condition (well done greenkeepers) and it certainly suited that old golfing warrior himself Paddy ‘Bounty’ Byrne, who shot a fantastic 45 points. Kevin Molloy was second with 39 points while John Lyster took third spot with 38 points. Paul Murphy won Category 1 (38 points), Eddie Byrne won Category 2 (34 points) and Ray Lyster won Category 3 (31 points) with Coli Griffiths winning the Front Nine Prize (19 points) while Bobby Messett won the Back Nine (17 points). The two nearest the Pin winners were Paul Murphy and Ed Mulligan with Paul also hitting the Longest Drive.

As this was the last outing of the year, all golfers would like to thank the fantastic committee for all their hard work in organising these seven outings and to thank the outgoing captain Gerry ‘Squirrel’ Touhy for a great year. Massive thanks also to Helen and Nick of Plucks for their wonderful support throughout the year and all look forward to the 2018 lead by incoming Captain Paddy ‘Whackers’ Byrne.

SOCCER ACTION

The under-10s drew 6-6 with Wicklow town this morning. Four for Seán Prendergast and two for Luke Kelly in a great team performance against tough opposition. John McEllihenny, Ross Marchawski, Joe Kavanagh and Oisin Shortt were brilliant in defence. Seán Sweeney had a great game in goals and Toby smith and Aidan Forster were excellent in midfield. Cian Levins Oran Finnerty and Beibhinn lavery were also excellent and also Jude Leahy, who was unlucky on a couple of occasions but gave everything for the team.

The under-11s drew 1-1with Greystones in Ryders on Saturday morning. This was a great game of football and Aishling Meehan putting family loyalty aside to crash the ball past her cousin who was between the posts for Greystones and dedicated manager Alan Condon was delighted with every one of his players on the day.

The seniors were at home to Rathnew on Sunday morning and went on a goal rampage with an 8-1 victory. This was all about a great second half performance as the Glens only lead 2-1 through Nathan Watters and an Own Goal. However, Nathan hit two more after the restart with Ben and Luke O’Callaghan, James Dunleavey and Sam Kerr also hitting the net for a great win. Ben O’Callaghan and Nathan Watters were superb for the glens.
