The Alpha/In-Between Book Club: The Book Club will meet on Tuesday, November 28, at 8 p.m. The book members are reading for this meeting is ‘In Order to Live’ by Yeonmi Park. The Book Club will not meet in December.

ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

The Rosary: Please join us at 2.45 p.m. in the church every Monday to Friday during November to pray the Rosary for the Holy Souls.

Wednesday Prayer Meetings: Continue each Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in room four of St Anne’s Resource Centre.

Male Voice Choir: Rehearsals for our Parish Male Voice Choir take place every Thursday at 11 a.m. There will be tea or coffee available in St Anne’s Resource Centre from 10.30 a.m.

Altar List of the Dead – Envelopes and Sheets: Altar list of the dead envelopes and sheets are available at the back of the church. All, whose names are listed will be remembered at Masses on the feast of All Saints, the feast of All Souls.

Medjugorje: Considerat­ion is being given to organising a pilgrimage from St Anne’s Parish in 2019. A number of parishione­rs will travel to Megjugje with Fr Jaimie for a week in April next year. This group travelling in April next year are not part of an official parish trip as those taking part are booking their transport, travel insurance etc. Anyone, who would like to join the group in April next year for the ‘trial run’ or if you would like to express an interest for the official trip in 2019, please speak with Fr Jaimie.

Autumn Goodies Sunday: Takes place this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre – cakes, jams, chutneys, crafts, plants, raffle etc. Proceeds in aid of Ugandan Orphans. Please not the change of venue from that published in SCAN Calling Transition Year Students: Your help and assistance is needed to organise the senior citizens’ Christmas party in St Anne’s National School on Friday, December 8, Please leave your name and contact details into St Anne’s Resource Centre if you would be happy to help out.

Christmas Fair 2017: The Parish Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, December 3, This is our main fundraiser to provide for the maintenanc­e of our church. This year, we are appealing to any members of our congregati­on who may feel they can help with sponsorshi­p of the prize money. Urgently needed are such items as Bottles – spirits, wine etc.; New or unwanted gifts sets e.g. perfumes etc.; Items for our hampers; Toys; Items for the wheel of Fortune; Helpers to sell raffle tickets in your area. Every little really does help. We regret that we cannot accept bric-a-brac items due to lack of space and health and safety concerns. Christmas Raffle Tickets may be purchased from the parish office during office hours. If you can help, please speak to Fr John, Martin Walsh or Pat Maguire. Last Monday there was a meeting of volunteers at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre to continue the work of planning this event to make it the best Christmas Fair yet.

Annual Appeal for Second-Hand Clothing: The society of St Vincent de Paul is seeking your help with their annual appeal for second-hand clothing. The bags will be distribute­d this Saturday and Sunday with the he collection of the bags taking place at the 7.30 p.m. Vigil Mass on Saturday, November 25, and at all Morning Masses on Sunday, November 26.

St Vincent de Paul monthly collection: The November church door collection will take place after all the Masses this Saturday and Sunday.

RESPECT (Daughters of Charity Disability Support Services): Is again hosting its ‘Handbags and Manbags’ Afternoon Tea Event this Saturday afternoon from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Fitzpatric­k Castle Hotel, Killiney, With designer bags donated from well known personalit­ies up for auction. November Film Night: Takes place on Saturday, November 25, at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre at which the film being screened will be Charles Dicken’s ‘Scrooge’ starring Alastair Sim, a timeless classic of British cinema++ Added Attraction: ‘Christmas in Vienna’ starring José Carreras, Placido Domingo and Diana Ross. All welcome – admission free.

Divine Mercy: The next meeting of the Divine Mercy Prayer Group will be held tonight Wednesday) from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre.

Youth 2000: We invite all 16to 35-year-olds to St Anne’s Resource from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to gather for a time of adoration, prayer, music, reflection and fellowship. The day has changed to a Monday and the upcoming dates are Monday, November 27, and Monday, December 11. The meetings followed by a cup of tea and social from 9 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

BOOK SALE

The December First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Wheels, in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Day Centre will take place on Saturday, December 2, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. as so make a point of calling into the book sale on Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the Christmas and New Year.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – closed this Friday and open Saturday. Cormac Lowth will be the guest speaker for the 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, meeting of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area, in Rathmichel School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, at which he will present his lecture ‘Richard Bridges Beech – Marine Artist and his Connection­s with Dún Laoghaire’.

Before the December lecture takes place, events coming up which may be of interest to Rathmichae­l Historical Society members include tonight’s (Wednesday) 8 p.m. meeting of the Dun Laoghaire Borough Historical Society in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire, at which Neal Doherty will present his lecture ‘The Complete Guide to the Statues and Sculptures of Dublin’; tomorrow (Thursday) nights 8 p.m. meeting of the Bray Cualann Historical Society in the Royal Hotel, Bray, at which Pádraig Laffan will present ‘The Desperate Fight to Save the Harvest of 1946 and the Severe winter of 1946/47’. Mahon to the Greystones Archaeolog­ical and Historical Society in the Holy Rosary Centre adjoining Holy Rosary Church, Greystones, Co. Wicklow, revealing the story of ‘Flora Sands: An Irishwoman, who served with the Royal Serbian Army during World War One’. All welcome – admission €2; and this Saturdays afternoon 2 p.m. guided tour of ‘The Stained Glass Windows of Christ Church Bray’ lead by Sarah Greene in Christ Church Church of Ireland, Church Road, Bray, Co. Roy Goodbody from the Rathmichae­l Historical Society will present the closing talk on ‘The Quaker influence on Dargan’s business life’.

The 2017 Dublin City Library and Archive Local History Day will take place on Saturday, November 25, from 9 a.m. to 2.15 p.m. in Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin – admission free and details will be announced shortly.

The 2018 Dublin City Library and Archive Local History Society Group Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, in the Dublin City Library and Archive, 138-144 Pearse Street, Dublin – details of the programme will be issued in due course.

Those wishing to join the Rathmichae­l Historical Society can do so at the December 6 meeting.

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. SHANKILL GAA CLUB

The Academy is back in action in our winter location at St Laurence’s College, Loughlinst­own. Check with your team manager for training times. Catering for both boys and girls from four to six years of age our Academy is in action every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on. Qualified coaches are always in attendance and all equipment is supplied free of charge. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

There was lots of action last Saturday week as the under-nine boys’ football were away to Good Counsel and the under-10 boys’ football were also away to St James Gaels. Last Sunday there was blitz games to beat the band. The under-eight girls were in action against Clan na Gael, under-nine girls against Bray Emmets and under-11 girls against Lucan Sarsfields. The under-nine boys’ footballer­s had a second day out with a friendly against St Kevin’s – Killians in Shanganagh Castle. Well done to all our coaches and parents who turned out these teams.

TIDY TOWNS

Help Shankill Tidy Towns keep the village looking well. We need volunteers to water plants on a rota once a fortnight. We also need people to do litter picking in their own area. TABLE QUIZ

Shankill Tidy Towns are holding their annual table quiz and raffle this Friday in Shankill Tennis Club at 8 p.m. €10 per person – you don’t need four people. Come along for a great night and support us in making Shankill a better place.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

The reschedule­d AGM of SARA will now take place at 3 p.m. on Monday, November 21, in St Anne’s Resource Centre. A big turn-out is essential for the AGM as the key decision will be made whether or not SARA will continue with a new committee or be closed.

ST PATRICK’S CHURCH

St Patrick’s Church is approachin­g its 120th Anniversar­y. However, the church remains closed for the last year as the HSE has deemed it unsafe, due to health and safety issues. All the electrical circuits in the church need to be re-wired. The Hospital Chaplain, Marianne Quinn is appealing to local businesses and parishione­rs for donations so that repair work can commence on this beautiful church on such a historical site. LOG ON AND LEARN

Log On and Learn is a programme where a participat­ing Transition Year student ‘buddy’s up’ with a person from their local community to share their computer skills with them. Lessons take place in the school on Fridays from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. Holy Child Killiney are now taking names for the next Log-on and Learn course, which will begin on Friday, November 24, Phone 01 2823120 for more details.

CHRISTMAS EVENT

Christmas in the village takes place on Sunday, November 26, in the Main Street with a variety of events – RSA Crash Simulator, Santa’s Grotto and more.
