CLUB MEMBERS TWIRL THEIR WAY TO THE TOP!

-

ARKLOW Baton Twirlers twirled their way to the top at a national event in Galway recently.

Athletes from the club competed at the Baton Twirling Sport Association of Ireland winter competitions in the Kingfisher Arena on the weekend of November 11 and 12 and came home with no less than 64 awards for first to sixth places.

Club members competed in a range of events, including struts, solos, pairs, teams and groups – some of them for the very first time.

The freestyle pairing of Leaha Walker Moore and Shannon Hurley made a little bit of club history by taking first place in their category. Club director Tracy Walker described this a ‘a great achievement’.

Ms Walker said the club was extremely proud of all the competitors, who took on ten other clubs from across Ireland.

‘All the extra training and dedication the girls put in in the run-up to competitions really paid off,’ she said.

The club has extended its thanks to Martin Lynch for transporting the athletes and supporters for the weekend and to Mr Somers and the staff of Arklow CBS for the use of their hall for extra training.

Club members have no time to rest on their laurels and are already busy preparing for Arklow Baton Twirlers’ annual Christmas display. This will take place at 6.30 p.m. on Monday, December 18, in Coral Leisure Centre.

‘Our next competition is in Tallaght in February so we still have a busy time ahead but I know all our athletes will do us proud, as they always do,’ said Ms Walker.
