RED LETTER DAY AS RECORD NUMBERS GRADUATE
CLOSE to 200 higher education students from Wicklow County Campus were conferred on Friday – the highest number of graduates so far at the IT Carlow campus.
Wicklow County Campus is a joint venture between Wicklow County Council and IT Carlow and the graduates programmes range from higher certificates to masters degrees.
Dr Patricia Mulcahy, President of Institute of Technology Carlow; Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council; Cllr Shay Cullen, cathaoirleach of Wicklow Municipal District; and Cllr Daire Nolan, Vice-Cathaoirleach of Wicklow Municipal District, were among the proud friends and family joining the graduates at Friday’’s conferring ceremonies.
In her address, Dr Mulcahy, acknowledged the vision of Wicklow County Council in securing the site at Clermont College, Rathnew, in 2006.
‘Wicklow County Council had the foresight to invest in this campus over 10 years ago, at a time that coincided with the beginning of the downturn in the global economy and the challenging environment that resulted from this. And it is because of this commitment that Institute of Techonology Carlow remains steadfast in its commitment to the further development of Wicklow County Campus.’
Mr Curran said he was ‘delighted’ to be associated with the graduation ceremony.
It’s a special day for the graduands and their families and for me as it signifies the successful partnership between Wicklow County Council and Institute of Technology Carlow in bringing third-level education to the doorstep of the people of County Wicklow. While I’m just two months into my new role, I’m looking forward to the continued development of Wicklow County Campus as a Centre of Excellence in education, enterprise and innovation, in what is a unique venture for Wicklow County Council, with this third-level facility acting as a catalyst for economic development in the county.’
