TANZANIA

We are a group of 13 students from Dominican College Wicklow. Over the next year we will be fundraising for the School of St Jude in Tanzania. We will be organising events such as balls, camps and Christmas fairs to raise money towards our trip. In previous years, students from our school have raised over 100 thousand euro in their fundraising efforts.

Our goal is to help the School of St Jude fight poverty through education. All the money that we raise goes directly to the school. We will be travelling to Tanzania in summer 2018. All students and teachers who travel will pay for their own flights and accommodation.

The School of St Jude is a charity-funded school located in Arusha, Tanzania. It was founded by Gemma Sisia and her husband Richard in 1998. The school opened on January 29, 2002, with only three students. Today, the school has 1,899 students. They provide a free, high quality education to the poorest and brightest children in the area. If it wasn’t for this school they would have little to no education at all.

We hope that you will join in our fundraising events to help us fight poverty through education. (Written by Chloe O’Brien)

On Tuesday, November 14, the TY students took part in a ‘Speak Irish for a day’ challenge as part of a National ‘Conradh na Gaeilge’ campaign. Well done to all the students who engaged in this challenge.

A huge effort was made by the girls to speak in Irish at school as well as home the girls got to enjoy a pizza party during their Irish class and got a certificate, Irish booklet and of course got the T-shirt. Well done to all girls who took part in this challenge and to Ms Wadden for organising the lá bhí craic ann.
