Fifth fundraiser in memory of baby Aaron in the Grand Hotel
MANDIE and Kieran Delahunt are organising their fifth fundraiser this Christmas in memory of their late son Áaron.
The previous four efforts have managed to raise an impressive €18,055 which has been used to purchase cuddle cots for bereaved parents who want to spend as much time with their baby before the final parting.
The coffee-mornings have also raised proceeds for Féileacáin, a not for profit organisation that provides support to anyone affected by the death of a baby during or after pregnancy.
Áaron’s full name is Sylvester Áaron Denis Delahunt, with his initials providing the name of the SADD Foundation established by his parents.
December 11 would have been Áaron’s birthday and each year since 2013 his parents have arranged their special fundraisers to take place close to his anniversary.
This year’s fundraiser takes place on Sunday, December 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Grand Hotel. Admission is only €5.
Santa Claus has also promised to make an appearance and bring some gifts between 10 a.m. and 11.30 a.m..
There will be a kiddies corner with arts and crafts and other activities to keep the youngsters entertained, while adults and parents can enjoy a natter over a hot cup of tea or coffee. Cake and other delights will be available as well.
There will be a large raffle, with Mandie and Kieran hopeful that they can match the 90 prizes donated for last year’s raffle.
‘We would like to thank everyone for the huge levels of support we have received since we started the fundraising events. We really do appreciate it. We have to thank all the businesses who always roll behind us and donate prizes for the raffle. The Grand Hotel are always great to us, as are their staff. Myself and Kieran have our own personal reasons for marking the occasion but we get great solace from the fact that other families also find great comfort through the event. It means a lot to us,’ said Mandie.
There will also be a Remembrance Tree at the coffee morning where parents can hang up an angel decoration bearing the name of their lost child.
