Plenty of festive cheer at Santa’s arrival
SANTA Claus was fashionably late as he switched on the Christmas lights in Wicklow town on Saturday.
Thousands gathered in Fitzwilliam Square, huddling together to keep warn from the considerable evening chill.
Santa’s late arrival only added to the sense of anticipation as the gathered masses burst into song and began eagerly reciting Christmas carols.
Soon, just before 5 p.m., there was excited squeals of delight as Santa wound his way through the streets from Wicklow Gaol via the Polar Express train to Fitzwilliam Square, ably assisted by some helpers.
Santa also came bearing some great news - Wicklow children have been extremely well-behaved this year with no-one placed on the naughty list.
From the stage Mr Claus sang along with the live-performers and vowed to return to Wicklow as soon as possible.
Wicklow’s festive cheer continues with a Magical Funfair taking up residence in Wicklow Gaol on Saturday and Sunday, December 16 and 17. Santa will be present and has organised an exciting polar express train, so you can enjoy the ride through the beautifully decorated main street.
Wicklow Choral Society’s annual Carols by Candlelight takes place on Friday, December 15, at the Dominican College Chapel.
The chapel with its beautiful stained glass windows and great acoustic is the perfect setting for listening to carols and enjoying the Christmas spirit.
Special guests will be Classic Harmony. Afterwards a reception complete with mulled wine and mine pies takes place.
The Garda Senior Citizens Christmas Party takes place in the Assembly Hall, Bachelors Walk on December 10 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m..
