A BLISTERING SATIRE WITH PLAY ‘THIS BEACH’
Brokentalkers Theatre Group are bringing their show ‘This Beach’ to Mermaid Arts Centre next Friday, December 1 at 8 p.m.
The beach is private. A European family has owned it for generations.
The family is celebrating a wedding. A union to bring children, security and greater prosperity.
During the celebrations, a stranger arrives on the shore of the beach.
The family must decide how to deal with this stranger.
This Beach is a blistering satire of white western privilege made in response to the global refugee crisis, from multi-award-winning theatre company Brokentalkers (The Blue Boy, Have I No Mouth, Circus Animals’ Desertion).
The Irish company are bringing this critically-acclaimed work to seven venues across Ireland this year, with the performance coming to Mermaid Arts Centre on Friday, December 1.
As the sand in This Beach is dug into and the past is excavated on stage, the beach becomes in turn an appealing leisure amenity, a valuable possession, a site of invasion, and a theatre of war.
Brokentalkers are acclaimed internationally for their pioneering work and continue to explore the world we live in with honesty, originality and courage.This Beach is sharply written and keenly observed, incorporating Brokentalkers’ trademark style of telling stories of social importance in an innovative way.
This Beach was co-produced by Goethe Institut, Munich Kammerspiele before its sold out run at Dublin Fringe Festival 2016. This tour is co-produced by Project Arts Centre.

Honor Heffernan (vocals) and Trevor Knight (keyboards) and their band (Ed Deane on guitar, Garvan Gallagher on bass, and Tom Jamieson on drums) present an exciting evening of original music interspersed with songs by writers such as Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Brecht and Weill, Diamanda Gallas and Peter Green. The original songs will be taken from their acclaimed show ‘The Whistling Girl’, featuring music composed by Trevor that was inspired by the poetry of the great American poet, wit and critic Dorothy Parker.
