DANCERS HIT FLOOR FOR A GOOD CAUSE

- By DEBORAH COLEMAN

A SMALL army of dedicated supporters and fundraisers kicked up their heels and waltzed their way to success in aid of Wicklow Hospice on Saturday.

The Arklow Bay Hotel was brimming with excitement as this year’s Wicklow Hospice Strictly Come Dancing got underway and the audience certainly was not disappointed.

A total of 39 people took on the Strictly challenge this year and dedicated 10 weeks to learning and perfecting routines under the tutelage of Sean Smullen of Dancing with the Stars fame and professional dance partner Aimie Leak.

Sean and Aimie are seasoned dance teachers and run the Love Dancing studio in Greenane.

They choreographed a total of 19 dances which the contestants performed on Saturday without a hitch.

Judges on the night were Joe and Phylis McCann, Aimie Leak and Katina Koumarianos.

Selecting the winning couple was a tough decision for the judges with a three way tie, however the winning routine had everything, fun, technicality, excellent timing.

Bobby and Megan Greene pulled out all the stops to achieve a well-deserved win with Megan even transforming herself into Dolly Parton for the night.

Every one of the dancers raised money for Wicklow Hospice and the total raised is still being tallied.

A spokesperson for the charity extended sincere thanks to everyone who helped to make the night such a great success.

‘Thank you so much to Sean Smullen and Aimie Leak, the 39 people who took on the Strictly challenge for us this year, each and every one of you were a pleasure to work with and you did yourselves proud on the night.

‘We are so grateful to the Arklow Bay who once again provided the venue free of cost. We will make sure to keep you updated with a cheque presentation when we have the final tally in.’
