THE lights have been switched on and the town is full of festive cheer.

From one end of the town to the other, traders and retailers are open for business and they look forward to welcoming local customers to their stores over the coming weeks.

Shopping local is what it’s all about and in Wicklow, there is something for everyone, whether it is party clothing or food and drink, gifts, home decor or simply the weekly essentials.

This time of the year is perfect too for bargain hunters, as any stores are offering significant discounts and special offers as the season of goodwill approaches.

With just a few weeks remaining before everyone downs tools for their long awaitied holiday break, there is much work and preparation to be done.

Why not take the hassle out of Christmas shopping by picking up gifts locally and asking local stores to assist with gift wrapping?

Shopping local has so many benefits. You will be supporting local jobs and businesses as well as making life very easy in January should and gift returns be required.

There is already a great buzz in town with many embracing the Christmas spirit as they enjoy a freshly made mince pie and hot chocolate in one of the many local cafes and restaurants.

This year, a new initiative has been launched to offer lucky shoppers the chance to win €125 in Wicklow Town Vouchers.

You can win the vouchers by checking out the Wicklow Town facebook page and tagging the shops you would like to spend the voucher and the friend you would spend it on.

They are accepted in over 40 shops throughout Wicklow Town and surrounding area, including Redcross and Ashford and would make an ideal Christmas gift.
