COMMERICAL

-

‘To implement an appropriate sustainable model for commercial activity and grow investment in the county’ is the strategic goal listed under the heading of ‘Commerical’ in the booklet delivered to Wicklow GAA delegates at the Glenview.

The priority was that Leinster Council carry out a review of internal financial controls and governance to ensure proper management structure and systems are in place to move forward.

Delegates involved in the consultation process had described the following as the desired outcome of this review:

That the Wicklow GAA brand be attractive to commercial partners.

That there be an increase in commerical revenue and new sponsors.

More engagement with current and potential partners.

Greater investment in coaching and games development.

Greater activity in newspapers, websites and social media.

Engagement and partnerships with local agencies.

That games be better attended and gate receipts increased.

Strategic actions under this heading began with the declaration that a new county bye-law be introduced at Convention to establish a Garden County Academy committee as a de facto County Supporters Club for raising money to support delivery of Wicklow GAA Player Pathway.

The chairperson of this committee would also be appointed as a non-voting member of the County Board.

That in early 2018 external third-party expert support be in place to assist with the development and implementation of commercial strategy.

By March 2018 Brand Wicklow GAA strategy to be launched highlighting the benefits of investing in Wicklow GAA.

Additional funding be secured for coaching and games development initiatives focused on increasing participation and delivery of Wicklow GAA Player Pathway 2018-2022.

That a communications group be put in place to drive PR across all platforms and sell ‘Brand Wicklow’ and competitions to grow match day revenues.

A database be established of current and potential commercial partners and organise an annual event to attract retain sponsors.
