Wicklow Town team focuses on the future
REGULAR progress reports from the team formed through the ‘Time to Kickstart Wicklow
Town’ initiative will be presented to the monthly meetings of
Wicklow Municipal District.
The Town Team was established to maximise the business, tourism and social potential of the town and to capitalise on its many unique selling points.
Cllr Shay Cullen, the Cathaoirleach of Wicklow Municipal
District, has been impressed with the input of the Town Team and their suggestions on ways to capitalise on what Wicklow town has to offer to both locals and visitors.
‘A lot of people are coming on board to the different committees. There is a good buzz about the place over what can be achieved. I think the initiative is to be commended ad hopefully plenty can be achieved,’ said Cllr Cullen.
A number of areas were highlighted by the Local Economic Initiative Group as having the most potential to deliver a much needed economic and social injection.
This resulted in the formation of separate committees focusing on Wicklow Town Digital Strategy, Greenway/Blueway, Park and Ride, Wicklow Town Public Realm and enhancing the visual appearance of the town, Historic Town Status/Heritage Site, Retail Survey. Pedestrian space was also encouraged with the closing of Fitzwilliam Square over two Saturdays prior to Christmas.
