Gardaí investigating car break-ins

GARDAI are renewing calls for motorists not to leave any valuables in their vehicles after a spate of car break-ins within the Wicklow Garda District over a five-day period.

Cars parked in Wicklow town, Brittas Bay and Roundwood were all damaged.

On Wednesday, January 3, a passenger window was forced in and a handbag stolen from a car parked at the Murrough in Wicklow town.

On Thursday, January 4, the owner of a vehicle parked at Cornagower, Brittas Bay, returned to find a passenger window smashed and some items stolen from the car. That same day, the passenger window of another car was smashed at the Murrough, with cash and other items taken.

On Friday, January 5, a handbag was stolen from a car parked at the north carpark in Brittas Bay.

There were also reports of a silver car acting in a suspicious manner in Roundwood on Sunday afternoon. Later that day, a car parked at Knockraheen had a window smashed and a handbag containing private documents was stolen.

Gardaí are once again warning motorists not to leave valuables in parked vehicles.

‘There seems to be a sequence of incidents during the week,’ said a Garda spokesperson. ‘Valuable items and handbags should not be left behind exposed or visible in a parked vehicle which is unattended. The best advice would be not to leave any valuables or items of importance in your car at all.’
