MARIAN TACKLING FRESH CHALLENGE

FORMER RUGBY FITNESS COACH OPENS WICKLOW TRAINING CENTRE

- By DEBORAH COLEMAN

AFTER four years as Head of Fitness for the Irish women’s rugby team, Wicklow town woman Marian Earls is about to ‘tackle’ a fresh challenge.

Earlier this week, the professional strength and conditioning coach opened her own training centre in her hometown which offers a full range of classes for everyone from seasoned athletes to complete beginners.

Best known for her work with the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) in overseeing the fitness of the women’s national team as well as both the men’s and women’s National Seven’s teams, Marian has decided to change direction and open ‘The Strength and Conditioning Collective’ on Morton’s Lane.

‘It is going to be a big change and while I will miss working in the rugby world, I am looking forward to getting out on my own,’ she said.

‘I will be applying what I have done with sport for the past four years and I will be giving all the classes myself to start with.’

As part of her rugby coaching job, Marian travelled the world through her roles with the IRFU and, before that, the Scottish Rugby Union and Edinburgh Rugby.

She was also an associate lecturer in Limerick IT in the Strength and Conditioning Department and has guest lectured in UCD, IT Carlow and Waterford IT.

With 10 years to her credit as a group and personal trainer in the fitness industry, Marian brings vast experience to her new venture.

‘My experience and drive to see others succeed has sown the seed for this new venture that is The Strength and Conditioning Collective and my experience as a coaching professional has supported my understanding of motivating people, achieving personal goals and overcoming challenges,’ she said.

Doors are now open and Marian is offering a full range of classes, including mixed group classes, classes exclusively for men/ladies and personal training for people of all abilities. For those pressed for time, there will be morning classes after school drop-off time and at lunch time for a quick fitness hit. A full range of pilates classes will also be offered (both on block booking and pay as you go basis) including one for mums and babies which Marian hopes will offer new parents a chance to enjoy some exercise with their babies by their side.
