Glencormac see off the Village to reach final four

Glencormac United travelled to Rathnew and came away with a 3-2 victory in the Thomas Scott (Division 1) Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

The hosts took the lead, but Sam O’Callaghan coolly curled a shot to the corner of the net to draw the Glens level.

Simon Doyle then fired them in front from the penalty spot before the interval, after Nathan Watters had been taken down in the area.

Dean McCormack gave the visitors a 3-1 advantage in the second-half and although the Village pulled a goal back, Glencormac defended well to secure the victory.

St Patrick’s came out on top after a goal-fest in Kilcashel. Eugene Dunne helped himself to four goals for the Avoca outfit as they chalked up a 7-4 triumph against Wicklow Town.

Paul McGann, Adam Browne and Andrew Doyle got the other goals for the winners, while Jack Geraghty, Adrian Durak (two) and Harrison Okungbowa replied for Wicklow Town.

Arklow United also booked their place in the last four thanks to a 2-1 win over Greystones United.

Richie Neary and Jonathan Quinn scored for the winners, with Anthony Fermoyle replying.

Charlie Byrne Cup

Shamrock Celtic marched on to the semi-finals of the Charlie Byrne (Division 3) Cup after getting the better of Arklow United in a tense penalty shoot-out on Sunday.

Freddie Miller fired United in front but Scott Meaney hit the back of the net for the visitors to force extra-time.

Penalties were needed to separate the sides, with Celtic prevailing 3-2.

Aidan O’Neill, Scott Meaney and Kevin Murray converted their spot-kicks for the winners, while goalkeeper Stephen Doyle also played his part, making some fine saves.

Elsewhere, Ballywaltr­im overcame Wicklow Town AFC 3-2 in their preliminar­y round game, with Des Kelly, Lee Hempsensta­ll and Justin Melia scoring for the winners and David O’Connor and Seán O’Brien hitting the back of the net for the Wicklow town outfit.

Jim McLaughlin Premier Trophy

Glen Hughes was the match winner for Roundwood AFC on Sunday, as he plundered the only goal of the game in the Jim McLaughlin Premier Trophy quarter-final clash with Arklow Celtic.
