SEÁN DEVLIN R.I.P.

The village of Kilmacanogue lost another of its famous sons last Thursday when Seán Devlin of Kilmurray Cottages passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his devoted family. He will be remembered with love by his wife Peggy, sons Alan and Derek, sister Ann, brother Christy, grandsons Issac, Adam, Josh and Hugo, daughter-in-law Dee, Alan’s partner Angela, brothersin-law, sisters-in-law, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

His removal took place on Saturday morning when mourners walked from his home to St Mochonog’s Church, Kilmacanogue where a huge crowd gathered for Seán’s Funeral Mass which was followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. At the Mass, his grandchildren recalled just what a great and kind granddad he was while friends spoke about the many happy times shared in work and on the golf course with Seán but his family was his was the important thing to Seán and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this sad time. Farewell Seán, may you continue to hit the little white ball straight down the Fairways of Heaven.

PETER MELDON

Sincere sympathy also to our own Ben Meldon on the sudden death of his brother, Peter Meldon, who died suddenly on December 30 at the Mater Hospital. Peter was the beloved brother of Anne, Ian, Jeanne, Michael, Liz and Ben, and his loss is deeply regretted also by his nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and by his wide circle of friends.

His Funeral Mass took place last Wednesday in St Andrew’s Church, Westland Row, followed by burial in Shanganagh Cemetery. Rest in Peace Peter.

The Kilmacanogue History Society members will host their first lecture of 2018 on Tuesday, January 9. Frank Tracy will present this lecture which is titled ‘First World War Poets’. This will take place in the Glenview Hotel at 8 p.m. A re- minder that membership fees are now due and can be renewed on the night. The society are looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year and remind everyone that new members are welcome, so please bring a friend.

SOCCER ACTION

The seniors travelled to Rathnew on Sunday to take on the home team in the Quarter Final of the Divisional Cup and emerged 3-2 winners after a thrilling battle. The Glens trailed 0-1 before Sam O’Callaghan coolly curled a shot into the corner of the net and then Simon Doyle slotted away a penalty after a great Glens attack resulted in Nathan Watters been chopped down and it was 2-1 at the break. The second half was an edgy affair before Dean McCormack added a third but Rathnew rallied with a stunning goal but some quality defending resulted in the Glens holding on for a super win. All 13 players used on the day were excellent.

On a sad note, everyone at Glencormac United would like to express their sympathy to the clubs fantastic chairman Christy Devlin on the sad loss of his beloved brother Seán Devlin last week. Seán was an absolute gentleman and while his football career ended at about 16 due to a bruised toe we are informed, he was a great supporter of the club in all fundraisers and will be remembered fondly by us all. Our deepest sympathy goes to his wife Peggy and sons Alan and Derek, grandchildren and extended family. Rest in Peace Seán.
