Grand Slam
Whatever the temperature was outdoors last Wednesday evening, the competition in the Dominican Ecology Centre conference hall was pretty hot.
A good attendance with some varied and interesting deals were played with a shorter than normal number of boards due to a slight hitch in the selected movement. But not withstanding that blip, there were two sections.
The sitting pairs were shown a clean pair of heels by Ann McCarthy and Billy Dunne who were a long way ahead of second placed pair Larry Ryan and Peggy O’Sullivan.
This pair were closely followed by Rosemary Morrissey and Rose Behan. In the moving pairs section, the winners were Susie Byrne and Evelyn Hastie.
The second pair home were Marian O’Sullivan and Caroline Brown. Third spot went to Angela McDermot and Pam McDonogh. Congratulations to them all.
The tutorial session for beginners and refreshers from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., before the main evening competition, attracted a few new faces and proved popular and interesting.
This free hour will continue each Wednesday in the Dominican Ecology Centre conference hall and is open to anyone interested in having a go at this world wide popular card game. It is free of charge and attempts to introduce the general guidelines in a relaxed and informal format without stress or any formal structure.
It starts at 6.30 p.m. and there is no need for a booking or to have a partner.
