THE LAUNCH of the Bray One Act Drama Festival took place last Wednesday in the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray.

New festival director William Mansfield addressed those in attendance welcoming this year’s adjudicato­r, Terry Byrne, to Bray for the first time. Terry is the president and chairman of the Associatio­n of Drama Adjudicato­rs and will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the festival.

William extended a huge welcome to all the groups and the representa­tives, wishing them a very successful and enjoyable experience over the course of the week.

All proceeds from the festival go to charity and the festival committee were pleased to announce the three charities that will be supported this year are CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), Bray and North Wicklow Stroke Club and Marino Community Special School – Sensory Room Project.

William closed the launch reminding people that the festival starts each evening at 7.30 p.m. and tickets are available from the Mermaid box office.

On Tuesday, January 23, East Glendaloug­h School presents Betweenity, a drama by Lindsay Price.

Risk in the Young at the launch and Kilmac Drama presents Fionn and the Scottish Giant, a farce by Clare Stephens and Conor McGowan. On Wednesday, January 24, Mel Ryan ADG presents In the Bag, a comedy by Frances Bartram. Model Box Production­s presents drama Another Live by Derek Webb, and Dalkey Players will perform For Whom The Southern Belle Tolls by Christophe­r Durang. On Thursday, January 25, Bray Arts Drama Group presents A Kind Of Alaska by Harold Pinter. Delgany Drama Group will do The Exiles by Jeffrey Grenfell-Hill. St Patrick’s Drama Society, Dalkey, presents comedy The Man On The Floor by Neil Simon.

On Friday, January 26, Delgany ICA will perform Whose Wedding Is It Anyway, a comedy by Margaret Bower. Kilrush Drama Group presents Bar And Ger by Geraldine Aron. Balally Players will perform comedy PVT Wars by James McClure.

On Saturday, January 27, Square One Theatre Group presents Vigil, a drama by David Butler. Ashford ICA will present comedy Clara’s On The Curtains by Arthur Lovegrove.
