IRELAND’S CALL FOR JACK

Keating drafted into Irish Rugby Club squad

-

JACK KEATING has been drafted into the Irish Rugby Club squad but the flying winger feels it would be impossible without his team-mates.

With 10 tries to his name in the 2017/18 season, Keating was informed recently that he’d been provisionaly included in the squad.

Shortly afterwards he learned that he’d made the cut for the training squad and now Keating will have up to four opportunities to earn a spot in the final squad.

It is not the first time that the 23-year old has flirted with the green jersey. He was included in underage squads before but missed out on the final squad and he does not want it to happen again.

Despite it being an individual honour, he says that he’d be nothing without his team-mates.

“I’m delighted. I can’t wait to get going and go to the training camps.

“I’ve been involved with Ireland before but never made the cut I’m looking to change that this time around. I want to show them what I’m capable of.

“This is down to my team-mates as much as me. As a winger, I rely so much on them and they’ve been fantastic. It really is a team effort for me to get this far. This will give great exposure to the club and hopefully it will motivate more people”.

Keating joined the club as a four-year old and Dr. Hickey Park has been his second home ever since.

Having only turned 23 in December, Keating still has many years of his best rugby ahead of him but he doesn’t want to wait until then to prove what he can do on a bigger stage.

The four training camps will be in Ashbourne Rugby Club. The first will be on Sunday, February 4 and they will run right through to March.

With his mum and dad a part of the furniture at Greystones games, it will be a very proud day for the Keating family if he takes his club form onto the international stage. It’s time for the winger to spread his wings and fly.
