Five-star Ashford Rovers too good for Roundwood

Ashford Rovers joined St Peter’s at the summit of the Andy McEvoy Premier Division table as they saw off Roundwood AFC 5-1 on Sunday.

Rovers comfortabl­y collected the three points, thanks to a double from Shane Dunne, a Robbie Eyre penalty and goals from Cian O hAnnáin and Seán Beale. Glen Hughes replied for Roundwood.

Newtown United also had the winning feeling after hitting Dynamo Dublin for six without reply at the Phoenix Park.

Dean Gahan and Matthew Kennedy both netted doubles for the Magpies, with Martin Williams and Neily Martin adding to their impressive tally.

Carnew suffered their first top flight defeat of the campaign as they went down 3-1 to Tallaght City at Balrothery School.

The Wicklow side boasted a 100 per cent record coming into the game, having won six matches out of six, but they were out of luck on Sunday, with a Brendan McCrea goal all they had to show for their efforts.

Pat O’Toole Division 1B

Greystones took the spoils in the only game played in the Pat O’Toole Division 1B on Sunday as they overcame Frankfort FC 4-2 at the Woodlands.

Anthony Fermoyle, Kevin Bell, Michael De Witt and Jason Chantham got the goals for the hosts.

Division 3

Division 3 pacesetter­s Arklow United extended their lead at the top of the table by overcoming Aughrim Rangers 2-1 at Ferndale Park on Sunday.

Tom Kavanagh and Alan McBride got the goals for the winners, with Paul Lacey replying for Rangers, who remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Second-placed Conary United had to be content with a share of the spoils as they drew 2-2 with Shamrock Celtic (see focus match).

Des Kelly, Eoin McMahon and Tom Cowan got the goals for Ballywaltr­im as they edged out Dearg Celtic 3-2, with John Andrew Kinsella netting a double for the Redcross outfit.
