Wicklow GAA Arklow boxers to launch new pathway plan set for Leinster championsh­ips

WICKLOW Coaching & Games developmen­t will be launching the ‘New Wicklow GAA Player Pathway’ in the Woodenbrid­ge Hotel on Wednesday, February 7, at 8pm.

Club chairperso­ns, secretarie­s, club coaching officers and coaches from the various age groups are invited to attend this launch, as well as primary and post primary teachers.

Wicklow GAA will be presenting 15 Player Pathway manuals to all clubs on the launch night.

Every club should be represente­d as this will be a very important get together as we all move forward during 2018.

A healthy crowd is expected on the night so come early to guarantee a seat.

There will be refreshmen­ts on the night and Wicklow GAA extend a warm invitation to allclubs in the county. ARKLOW’S Boy 4 and Youth 1 and 2 competitor­s will take part in their Leinster championsh­ips which start on Saturday next, February 10, in Athy.

The boxers have to win the Leinster title to qualify for the national finals in March. The team of eight boxers include two Irish champions, Sean Crowley, at Youth 2, and Matthew Tyndall, who has won four national titles.

Both Sean and Matthew have represente­d Ireland in European Schoolboy Championsh­ips. Two other members of the team, Daniel Feokrytova and Eimhin McCormack, have won Leinster titles and will be looking to hold their crowns.

Jason Breen, at Youth 1, will be seeking to make an impression and is in great form as is Owen Moore and Wexford Cup holder Daniel Fox, debutante Jamie Doyle will contest the heavyweigh­t division at Boy 4 and is confident of putting up a good show. The team will leave the club at 7am on Saturday morning to weigh in at 8am in Athy.

Fergal Redmond will contest the Elite Championsh­ips starting on February 10 having weighed in on Saturday morning at 8am. Fergal will contest the 69kg division (welter) a division title held by Dean Walsh, St Ibars, It will be Fergal’s fifteenth time to take part in these championsh­ip representi­ng Arklow Boxing Club with distinctio­n.
