Cox resigns from role

-

THE Wicklow League U-18 squad will be under new management for their crucial tie against the Combined Counties following the resignation of Christopher Cox.

The Bray man cited health reasons and a poor working relationship as the reasons behind his departure which has reportedly left his backroom staff of John Belmont, Daragh Keenan and Ryan Cahill to hold the fort with Newtown United’s Trevor O’Brien also expected to step into the fray.

Cox oversaw Wicklow’s 2-2 draw with the NDSL in October but he will not be present in Tullamore on Saturday as Wicklow look to advance to knock-out stages.

“Unfortunately, due to health issues and a breakdown in talks with a member of the Executive Committee of the Wicklow League, I have had to step away from the Wicklow League U-18 squad.

“This is not what I wanted but I feel that I have no choice but to resign. I would like to wish all the players and all the coaching squad the best of luck with the remainder of the competition and I hope they can fulfil their potential.

“What we all want is success and good football in Co. Wicklow and I hope the lads can achieve that.

“I’d also like to wish all members of the Executive Committee of the Wicklow League the best for the remainder of the season.”

The Wicklow League declined to comment whatsoever on the situation.
