Arklow girls power to win in Naas

-

ARKLOW RFC NAAS RFC 36 6

ARKLOW RFC’S under-14 girls faced into a daunting away fixture against league leaders Naas last weekend.

The fixture had come on the back of winning run for Arklow however the team had not played a game since before Christmas so there were concerns around match practice.

If there were concerns clearly nobody told the girls as they ran out clear winners on a fine score of 36-6.

Within two minutes Emma Keane let the hosts know they were for tough day crossing over for the first try with Grainne Flynn converting.

Flynn then crossed over for another try herself and added the conversion again before Naas had a chance to compose themselves.

Grace Furlong then get in on the act just before half time leaving the scoreline at 19–0 at halftime.

The girls pretty much picked up from where they left off in the second half with Grainne Flynn getting another two tries after some strong running by the Arklow players. Becky Vickers then completed the day with a late try at the end.

This was a complete performance from a team that is growing with each game. The most encouraging part being that team never got complacent and remained strong in defence despite their early lead.

The Arklow girls now lie in a strong position in the league with three games to go. However, they face another challenging away fixture against Tullow this weekend and would welcome any travelling support.
