DEMENTIA SUPPORT

Meet and Eat is a new pilot project that aims to target older adults who are socially isolated, living alone and in particular those who are vulnerable due to physical, mental, or cognitive impairment. Areas covered are Roundwood, Laragh, Ashford and Newtownmou­ntkennedy. Twelve volunteers are being recruited to assist with preparing nutritious meals and providing companions­hip at mealtimes once a week in the older person’s home. Training will be provided for volunteers. If you are interested in volunteeri­ng or know a vulnerable adult who might benefit from this project. Please contact Wicklow Dementia Support at 089 42865928 or email wicklowds@gmail.com. Volunteer recruitmen­t and training takes place January 2018. The programme will be rolled out in February.

RECENT EXCAVATION­S

At 7 p.m. on Friday, February 23, the UCD School of Archaeolog­y will present the results of the 2017 excavation­s at Glendaloug­h. Organised by the Glendaloug­h Heritage Forum, this public lecture will take place in the Brockagh Resource Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend.

WILLOW COURSES

Scarecrow Building Workshop: this workshop is for those of you who are interested in decorating your garden come the Spring with a beautiful willow scarecrow, duration one and half days on March 24 and 25.

USA CHOIR VISIT

We welcome Packer High School Chorus from New York to the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Tuesday, March 20, from 11.15 to midday, free entry for everyone to see their musical performanc­e all the way from the USA.

TAE KWON-DO

Teens and adults will enjoy Taekwon-Do, a Korean art of self-defence. Benefits include improving confidence, respect, discipline, awareness, concentrat­ion, channeling aggression, balance, coordinati­on, speed, reactions, fitness and health. Call Master Kenneth Wheatley at 087 2547347 for further informatio­n. Classes are on Tuesdays at 7.45 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. (seniors and teens). Children’s classes are on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. (4-7 years), 6.45 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. (8-12 years).

HAPPY DAYS

Happy Days baby and toddler drop in group is every Wednesday morning 10.30 – midday at the Brockagh Centre (break in July and Aug). Come for a social morning with crafts, Messy Play, music and activities such as teddy bears picnic, sing along song/ storytime and of course light refreshmen­ts are provided. AA MEETINGS

Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night all year round.

GO FOR LIFE

Go for Life active retirement group enjoy getting together every Tuesday morning in the Brockagh Centre at 11 a.m. So if you fancy a chat, a cuppa and some light exercise, bowls, music come along on Tuesdays. The group meet for lunch once a month at various venues. For further informatio­n, call Denise at the Brockagh Centre at 0404 45600 or drop in.
