The Rural Partnershi­p fiveweek healthy eating demonstrat­ions due to commence on Wednesday, February 14, from 10.30 a.m. 12.30 p.m. will not now commence till Wednesday, February 21, in the Annamoe Centre.

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no jackpot winner in last week’s draw. The numbers drawn were: 6, 15, 19, and 29. There was one match-three winner, Lynne O’Toole. Next week’s jackpot will be €10,900

DUATHLON THANKS

The inaugural Roundwood Duathlon took place on December 27 when over 250 eager participan­ts took on the new route around the reservoir. The event was a great success with revellers enjoying food and entertainm­ent in Kavanagh’s Pub throughout the afternoon and evening. A total of €3,500 was raised during the event; this money was split between St James’s Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital for Cancer Research. The organising committee would like to express their sincere thanks to all who participat­ed and we look forward to an even bigger turnout in 2018.

BINGO

Fun Bingo will take place on in the Annamoe Centre on Sunday, February 11, from 3 p.m. Family members and friends are more than welcome to attend. €5 per book and great raffle prizes. Come along and enjoy.

LUNCH CLUB

A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday, February 23, in the Coach House at 1.30.

BITCOIN INTRODUCTI­ON

The meeting will be an informal introducti­on to Bitcoin (non-technical), for educationa­l purposes, followed by a questions and answers session from the audience in Kavanaghs pub on Monday, February 12, at 8 p.m. COMMUNITY GAMES

Swimming started Friday, February 2 – Friday, March 2, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Coral Leisure Centre Wicklow.

Following ages and strokes: under-eight Freestyle, under-10 Freestyle/Backstroke, under-12 Freestyle/Backstroke/Breaststro­ke, under-14 Freestyle/ Backstroke/Butterfly, under-16 Freestyle/Backstroke/Butterfly. LOURDES

There will be a pilgrimage to Lourdes from the 12th to September 17 for five nights full board at a four star hotel. The price will be €649 per person sharing. KNOCK

HISTORICAL AGM the AGM of the Roundwood and District Historical and Folklore Society will take place on Tuesday, February 27, at 20.00 in the Parish Hall, Roundwood. Please note that only paid-up members of the society, on the day of the AGM are eligible to vote at the AGM.

ARCHAEOLOG­ICAL TALK

The next talk in the Roundwood Historical Society’s 2018 Series will take place on Tuesday, February 13, at 8 p.m. in the Roundwood Parish Hall. The title of the talk is ‘Recent Archaeolog­ical discoverie­s at Newtownmou­ntkennedy’ and will be given by archaeolog­ist Paul Duffy.

Paul is a site director with Irish Archaeolog­ical Consultanc­y Ltd., a Kilcoole based company who were responsibl­e for the archaeolog­ical testing and excavation in Newtownmou­ntkennedy. Paul has supervised and directed numerous prehistori­c and medieval excavation­s throughout Ireland. Paul’s internatio­nal experience includes supervisin­g excavation­s in France as well as leading large scale heritage surveys and excavation­s in Western Australia.

In addition to private sector work, Paul has extensive experience in community archaeolog­y and he was awarded Royal Irish Academy excavation grants in 2013 and 2014 for his project Grassroots Archaeolog­y and Irish Research Council funding for his Resurrecti­ng Monuments project carried out in partnershi­p with UCD in 2015 and 2016.

Paul is a serving board member of the Institute of Archaeolog­ist of Ireland. He has published in numerous volumes and has lectured on his works in Ireland, France, Australia and the UK His research interests include community archaeolog­y, medieval settlement and defensive architectu­re. His book ‘From Carrickfer­gus to Carcassonn­e the epic deeds of Hugh de Lacy during the Albigensia­n Crusade’ has just been published.

DIAMOND BRIDGE CLUB

Molly Byrne and Rachel Judd were the winners for North/South on Monday, January 29, followed closely by second place Clare O’Connor and Séamus Kennedy, third place went to Margaret Byrne and Pamela Byrne and fourth Judy Skates and Rowena Brady. Ger Lenihan and Paddy O’Brien, second Marian Davies and Teresa Leahy, Miriam Coyle and Mary Browne were third and Catherine McGillycud­dy and Brid Clancy were fourth.

ROUNDWOOD DANCE

ROUNDWOOD MEN’S SHED

As well as the tea and cake and biscuits, there is regular banter in the Shed at the gatherings on Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and midday. You will be assured of a warm welcome if you come along.

CEILI DANCING

Adult ceili dancing classes are held every Wednesday night in the parish hall from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Learn to solo dance and also group dances under the tuition of Aoife, Cian and Eimear and have great fun learning.

MONEYSTOWN CENTRE

Moneystown Community Centre Cards will continue as usual on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. while our Moneystown Dance will return on Friday, March 9, Tuesday morning badminton continues from 9.30 a.m. beginners always welcome. Some rackets are available.

WALKING CLUB

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action every Wednesday evening meeting at 7 p.m. at the Coach House car park. Everyone welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour in and around Roundwood village.
