Wicklow well represented! Garden students shine
THERE was great success for three Wicklow GAA men last weekend when Carlow Institute of Further Education claimed the Electric Ireland Corn Comhairle Ardoideachais title by beating National College of Ireland by 6-09 to 0-10.
The team was captained by Dunlavin and Wicklow county man Eoin Murtagh while joining him among the ranks were Kiltegan duo Aaron Byrn and Steven Coogan.
There was no joy for Glenealy and Wicklow hurler Warren Kavanagh when his DIT side were defeated by DCU 2-20 to 1-11 in the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final.
His Rathnew footballing colleague Ross O’Brien exited the Sigerson Cup competition with DIT at the same stage after defeat to eventual beaten finalists NUIG.
It was hard luck to Blessington’s Jack Cotter and his UCD Freshers team on their championship exit after defeat to NUI Maynooth on Thursday last.
The team had won the All-Ireland League but under performed on the night against a very good Maynooth side. Jack performed well in the number two jersey.
Meanwhile, in the Leinster Senior Schools Championship, CBS Naas had a great win over Colaiste Eoin in the semi-final of the Leinster ‘A’ championship on Saturday in Blessington.
Blessington GAA players on the team are Conal O’ Gallchobhair, Jordan McGarr and Ethan Cotter.
The final is fixed for March 10 against Marist College, Athlone. Glenealy’s Warren Kavanagh in action for DIT in the Fitzgibbon Cup. THE Bray Emmets Minor hurling team got their Dublin campaign off the mark on Sunday in a dour and mucky Arthur Griffith Park against Lucan Sarsfields.
The Lucan outfit had laboured their wares in Division 1 since under-12 and to everyone’s surprise found themselves in Division 2 this year.
The game was somewhat hampered by the poor underfoot conditions and persistent drizzle which fell relentlessly for most of the game.
