being the 2018 fixtures programme. The result of their deliberations is to be seen in a 2-page spread in the sports section of the

of Wednesday, February 14. Hopefully the goodwill which is required of the clubs if the fixture scheme is to be run off smoothly will be forthcoming.

Hugh Kenny has been appointed ‘the go-to man’ for any problems a club might have with respect to fixtures during the year.

Last week, weather put the masterplan to the test for Éire Óg’s opening Division 1A league match away to Avondale.

Avondale’s pitch was unplayable so rather than postpone the game it was agreed to play it in Na Clocha Liatha. It was a case of tosach maith leath na h-oibre for the locals. They won 1-9 to 2-2. There was an extra satisfaction in the victory in that Avondale had a big part in Éire Óg losing the Division 1 status last year.

Another bit of good news - the Juniors won away to St Pat’s, 1-9 to 2-4.

A word of warning to people parking in the environs of the club rooms: it has been reported that a number of items have been taken recently from cars in the carpark.

COMHGÁIRDEACHAS - Is fearr go déanach ná go brách (better late than never). During the Note’s hibernation Stephen ‘Chester’ Kelly married Katie Graham (also of Greystones). Our belated congratulations to them agus guímid saol fada taithneamhach orthu beirt.

COMHBHRÓN - The club extends its sincerest sympathies to John Wynne, to his father Kevin and to all the Wynne family on the death of John’s mother, Angela. John has been a loyal member of the club since his early juvenile days and was part of the senior team’s management for a number of years.

The esteem with which Angela and the family are held in the community was evidenced in the overflow congregation which was present at Angela’s Requiem Mass.

Among the mourners Éire Óg had a significant presence which included Uachtarán Ray Barry and Cathaoirleach John Keane and some of John’s playing colleagues who travelled long distances to attend. Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam cáirdiúl Angela.

Plans are at an advanced stage for the provision of the proposed wheelchair accessible walkway around the perimeter of the Fairgreen.

Chairman Mark Dempsey and secretary Richard lambert are spearheading the project and deserve huge credit for progress to date. When completed the walkway will be a huge addition to our club, the village and surrounding areas.

Sincere sympathy of all club members is also extended to Terry Cullen on the sad passing of her brother, Billy Bell, R.I.P.
