Talk on findings at Glendalough
THE UCD School of Archaeology presented the results of their 2017 excavations in Glendalough at the Brockagh Resource Centre.
The public lecture was organised by the Glendalough Heritage Forum and was based on the results of digs carried out in August of last year.
Many people who participated in the excavations were present in the Brockagh Resource Centre for Graeme Warren of UCD’s presentation.
The community excavation took place over a two week period, with full training and supervision provided on site. There was also a special one-day junior excavation suitable for 13 to 17 year olds.
A simulated archaeological dig also took place, giving children from 5 to 12 the opportunity to try their hands at archaeology. Professionals from the School of Irish Archaeology were on hand to discuss any of the finds.
All the events were free and followed on from a community excavation held in 2016 and a community archaeology event held in May of 2017.
Among the items discussed by Mr Warren was a bronze ring pin unearthed during the digs. Anyone who missed the presentation but would have liked to attend should note that there will be a lecture delivered on the excavations to Castledermot Local History Group on May 29 at 8 p.m..
