A very strong side from Scoil Chonglais put on a top class display on Wednesday in Ballinakill to regain the Wicklow Post Primary Schools Girls Junior football ‘A’ title with a convincing win over Dominican College in the final.

The Baltinglass school hit the ground running and had 1-2 on the board within four minutes.

They continued to set the pace with incisive moves opening gaps in the Dominican defence.

The Wicklow town school failed to settle in the first half and when they did go on the attack they came up against a very tight marking defence.

When referee Maurice Mulcahy blew for half time Scoil Chonglais led by 6-8 to 0-1.

They were aware that in their semi-final win over Coláiste Bhríde they had a similar lead at the interval, but the second half produced a close finish.

On this occasion they added two more early goals to give them an extra cushion.

Dominican College came much more into the game in the second half without ever threatening the lead.

Their spirited efforts were rewarded with some fine moves and good scores but the result was never in doubt.

Scoil Chonglais had stars all over the field with Jessie Moore and Kubrat Matomni starring in defence, Lia Arnold O’Reilly and Maria O’Callaghan on top in midfield with Shauna Cahoon and Ella Parke excelling in attack.

Dominican College also had some excellent players with Niamh Caffrey, Ellen Griffin and Naoise O’Reilly to the fore.

The winners were managed by Wicklow inter county star Laura Hogan while Kathryn Fox was in charge of Dominican. After the game the trophy was presented to the winning captain Kubrat Matomni.
