Ardclough and Allen Produce Thriller In Division 4 - Ardclough GAA Hall was the venue for this Division 4 Rd.12 game between Ardclough and Allen played on Friday, February 16.

Both teams at present are sitting around mid-way in the league table, with Allen just having a half point more in their favour. It is always a close game whenever these sides meet and it is anticipated that this encounter would be no different. A win for either team would bring them right back into contention, as it would put them up among the leaders.

Real Thriller - Ardclough started off in flying fashion on mat one and on the first three ends had gone into a lead of 4-0. At this early stage the home team were very much in control, and if it continued in this trend it was likely to end up in a one-sided affair.

Any doubts about concerns as such were soon dispelled, as Allen commenced their scoring and by the sixth end had levelled the game at 6-6.

The game from that point onwards became a real thriller as both sides settled to their task. With each side trying to outdo the other it turned into a real shootout. It was score for score and on the eight end teams were level for the second time at 8-8 all. The question now was could the teams maintain this level of concentration to the finish.

Well that question was well and truly answered, as again on the eleventh end it was level for the third time on a score of 10-10. On the next end when the visitors went into a lead of two it gave them a wee bit of a cushion especially in the context of this game or so was thought.

But the home side were far from finished as they thundered back to incredibly bring the teams level once again. With two ends to play the tension was almost unbearable as each side sought to register the necessary scores to see them over the line.

It was the home side that got a single score on each of those last two ends to secure a hard earned victory on a score line of 14-12. One would have to feel a bit of sympathy for the loser as a draw would have been a fairer result after such a great game, but unfortunately sport doesn’t do sympathy.

Ardclough: Oliver Farrell, Geraldine Maguire, Nina Delmar, Frank Byrne and sub Ellen Farrell.

Allen: Kathleen Bloom, Billy Kennedy, Doreen Wiltshire and Kevin McCormack.

Another Classic - Mat 2 was not going to be outdone by the previous mat and this game turned out to be another classic encounter.

This was the opposite of the other mat as it was the visitors that settled into the game from the start.

With five ends played it wasn’t looking at all healthy for the home team as Allen were the dominant force leading by nine scores against their opponents score of one.

Anyone thinking at this stage that this game was going to be a stroll in the park for the visitors with such a lead were badly mistaken.
