DOLORES MESSITT R.I.P.

Very sad news hit Kilmacanogue last Monday morning when locals heard Dolores Messitt had sadly passed away unexpectedly in the care of the staff of St Vincent’s Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of the late Kevin, loving mother of Paula, Bobby, Jim and Glen, sister of May and Florrie, brother Noel, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. Friends and family gathered at her home last Tuesday evening and her removal took place on Wednesday morning to St Mochonog’s Church, Kilmacanogue, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery where a large crowd gathered to say a final farewell to a real lady.

She will be remembered as a kind sweet lady who adored her family deeply but as they all admit, a part of her died a few years back when she lost her beloved Kevin (Bunty) and they can take solace and comfort that she is with him now. Most recalled the great times they shared and her love of the football and even last Sunday week when she was poor in hospital, she still wanted to know how Manchester United got on v Chelsea and her son Bobby, a Liverpool fan had to inform her that United had won. Dolores was actually a sister of Noel McFarlane who was with Manchester United famous youth team in the early 50’s that went on to become, the Busby Babes.

We could not pay tribute to Dolores and not mention the wonderful people who got the church grounds ready for the removal on Wednesday morning. Patrick Nolan, Ian O’Toole and Frank Connolly done trojan work so people could gain access to the grounds after the snow fell on Tuesday night. Paddy O’Brien and Mark Quinn, who took the grave on a bitterly cold Tuesday. Lastly, Fr Dan Nguyan, who took a chance coming out for both Tuesday nights prayers and the Funeral Mass on Wednesday on his little motorbike no less and was a great character throughout. Farewell Dolores, Glencormac has lost another lovely lady, rest in peace.

HAPPY 40TH TREVOR

Congratulations to Trevor Carr, who turned 40 years young on February 28. With the bad weather last week, it was Sunday before he got to really celebrate the day with his family in Butler and Barry on Bray seafront. Trevor is a great community man and gave Glencormac United great service over the years as both a player and manager and everyone at the club would like to congratulate him on this milestone. Of course, a special mention comes from his wife Suzanne, and his two little treasures, daughter Sadhbh and son Patrick and all his family. Best wishes to the next 40 Trevor.

WOMEN’S DAY OF PRAYER

The international Woman’s Day of Prayer will take place in St Mochonóg’s Church this Friday, March 9, at 8 p.m. This event was cancelled from Friday the second due to the adverse weather conditions.

The interdenominational movement of the Women’s World Day of Prayer invites everyone to attend one of over 5,000 services being held worldwide with the title ‘All God’s Creation is Very Good.’. The congregation present will join an estimated three million people around the world this Friday in a service which has been written this year by the women of Suriname in South America.

Starting in Samoa as the sun rises, and ending as the sun sets off the coast of American Samoa, the service will have been translated into more than 95 languages and 1000 dialects as we are reminded that we have responsibilities in caring for this wonderful world we live in. With its vast rainforest and wealth of resources. Suriname asks us to pray for conservation and the protection of wildlife, through an awareness of pollution, misuse and abuse, as well as for the situation in Suriname and concerns for the future. This day is not simply a day of prayer for women, but for everyone who cares about our world and those who live in it.

This prayer service is an annual event locally, taking place in Enniskerry, Curtlestown, Glencree, Calary, Kilbride, Powerscourt and here in St Mochonógs, Kilmacanogue on alternate years. Each of these churches will have members taking part in this inter faith ceremony. This year, the new principal in Kilmacanogue National School, Niamh Murray has kindly agreed to be the guest speaker, and there will be tea, coffee and refreshments afterwards in the Parish Hall. All are welcome to come along to this ceremony at 8 p.m. this Friday evening.
