Carnew mother avoids prison for no insurance

REPEAT motor insurance offender Samantha Fitzgerald (34) of 16 Tomacork View, Carnew, was back before Gorey District Court last Thursday on three charges of driving without cover.

Judge John Cheatle was told that the mother of six had already been put off the road for seven years for a similar offence.

Solicitor Ed King accepted that Ms Fitzgerald had shown a blatant disregard for the relevant laws in the past but expected no repeat in future.

The judge banned her from holding a licence for eight years. A four-month prison sentence was suspended once she signed a bond agreeing to follow supervision of the probation service.
