A tribute to the sportswomen of Wicklow
LAST week, the world celebrated International Women’s Day and on Sunday it was the turn of mothers to be honoured.
With those momentous days in mind, we decided to pay tribute to the sportswomen of Wicklow by reaching out and speaking to as many as we could to get their thoughts on their careers, their endeavours, their hopes and dreams in a rapidly changing world.
This week, we spoke to women from the world of the GAA, soccer and rugby and we hope to make contact with the blossoming world of women’s boxing and all other sports within which Wicklow women are participating in in the very near future.
There are difficulties within the world of sport for women, many of which are raised in the following pages, such as lack of coverage, lack of support, lack of development, inadequate facilities.
But there are also positives, many, many positives. In Wicklow we are blessed with some of the finest sportswomen in Ireland and beyond. We salute them and we wish them nothing but the best.
