Coláiste Chraobh Abhann come through a thriller

Round-up

THE aftermath of the snow caused unplayable pitches in many areas and a number of postponed fixtures. lead 2-2 to 0-3 after 20 minutes found themselves leading by 2-03 to 1-04.

The game ebbed and flowed from end to end and Gaelcholáiste na Mara will feel very unlucky to have lost out.

Entering the final quarter they found themselves in a strong position having gone two points ahead.

However, a never-say-die attitude from the local school and a willingness to work the ball into good positions, even when under pressure yielded two late goals.

Gaelcholáiste Na Mara did rally again in the final two minutes and two attempts by Oisin O’Bhriain and Brian O’Hurlaigh flew over the bar for white flags but they were still two points in arrears when referee Eddie Leonard blew the final whistle.

Indeed, Wicklow’s future for an up and coming goalkeeper is bright as C.C.A. number month Ryan Curran produced three to four top class saves in the final 10 minutes.

One particular effort when he sprung across the goalline panther-like and saved a certain three-pointer at the bottom of the post.

Both schools had fine footballers on display, but for C.C.A. Ryan Curran, Craig Davis, Shane Sinnott, Cameron Brady, and Luke Breen really put in amazing shifts.

Gaelcholiste na Mara were well served by Patrick Le Cardi, Chris O’Bhrain, Oisin O’Brian and Brian O’Hurlaigh, all four displaying a high level of Gaelic football skills.

Coláiste Chraobh Abhann now play St Kevin’s CC Dunlavin in the ‘A’ quarter-final.
