Coláiste Bhríde secure Wexford basketball crown

COLÁISTE BHRÍDE CARNEW hosted the 2017/18 Wexford First Year Boys Regional Backetball Championsh­ip semi-finals and finals last week, Thursday, March 8.

The Carnew students were in the first semi-final against St. Peter’s College.

This was a tough game from the outset with Peter’s putting scores on the board first and making the better use of the court.

Brandon Rossiter got Coláiste Bhríde Carnew on the board with a stellar three-pointer.

It was nail-biting game with only three points between the teams.

Carnew rose to the challenge and held off a strong offensive St Peter’s team to win the game. Final score: CB Carnew 20, St Peter’s College 17.

The second semi-final was played by Gorey CS and Ramsgrange CS. Two evenly matched teams. Final score: Gorey CS 16, Ramsgrange CS 13.

For the final, it was neighbours Carnew and Gorey CS going head to head. It was again a tight game and both teams played very well.

Ruairi O’Brien put Carnew’s opening score on the board. It was basket for basket from then on, but Coláiste Bhríde Carnew kept their heads to see out the game as victors.

Final score: Coláiste Bhríde Carnew 16, Gorey CS 12.

The Coláiste Bhrde first year basketball team are now through to the regional finals which will be held in Waterford in the near future.
