SEACHTAIN NA GAEILGE

DCW will be celebrating ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ from March 12 to the 16th. There is a great schedule of events organised by the TY Irish class.

It starts on Monday with the annual Irish Mass at 11.30 a.m. in the Dominican Chapel with the Gaelscoil. On Tuesday there will be Irish food served in the canteen. Wednesday should be fun with a lunchtime céilí with Ms Wadden in Fatima Hall with some of our second years performing some Irish Dances. There will be a TY talk on Thursday on the myths associated with the Irish language, presented by Ms Wadden. In the afternoon there will be a ‘Tráth na gCeist’ with Ms Beary and the junior students. Friday is the official ‘Lá Glas’ and the senior students will have their Tráth na gCeist with Mr Cronin in the afternoon.

Thanks to all the TY’s and the Irish Department for organising such a fun week to celebrate ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’. We are really looking forward to the ‘craic’.

DROP EVERYTHING AND READ

On Friday, March 9, DCW students enjoyed a ‘Drop Everything and Read’ class. This is part of our Literacy Initiative implemented back in 2012/13. During this class time the whole school community was given time to read for enjoyment and is proving to be a success.

TANZANIA FUNDRAISING

The girls planning their trip to Tanzania in the summer are organising a ‘Table Quiz’ in association with the Wicklow Rotary Club. It will be held on Friday, March 23, in the Grand Hotel. It promises to be a great evening with a buffet meal starting at 7.45 p.m. and the cost is €120. Thanks to the Wicklow Rotary Club for organising and helping the girls with their fundraising for the ‘School of St Jude, Tanzania’.

BASKETBALL

Well done to the first and second year basketball teams who travelled to North Wicklow Educate Together in Bray for their recent matches. Both teams played really well with the first years being narrowly defeated and the second years winning by 15-10. Congratulations to all involved and thanks to NWET for hosting the matches.

WELLBEING

Students and staff are enjoying a weekly ‘meditation’ session with Ms Gaffney. The meditation is carried out to the whole school community before break each Friday and all are benefiting from this way of improving our relaxation and reducing stress levels. It is another aspect of improving the wellbeing of our school community.

ST. PATRICK’S WEEKEND

School will be closed on Monday, March 19, for St Patrick’s Weekend. We wish you all a lovely weekend.
