Call for survey of roads after storm

-

A WICKLOW councillor has called for a full road survey to be carried out to assess the damage caused by Storm Emma.

Cllr Nicola Lawless said that while exceptional work was done by the emergency services, community members, the county council and volunteers, roads had been left in a deplorable state.

‘It is great to hear that we are in safe hands during some of these severe weathers warnings and plans are clearly put into place. My concern is the damage that some of these spells of bad weather have left behind around the county. I have requested that a survey would be done around the county to asses any damage done, particularly on our roads. I’ve had people in touch with me in relation to severely damaged roads due to the weather.’

Cllr Lawless said that Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Frank Curran, has undertaken to have a survey completed over the coming week and this report will be sent to the Department.

‘I feel under the circumstance that the government should be giving all local authorities extra funding for any extra work that maybe needed and to ensure that funding is given as soon as possible, so works can commence on these roads.’

She said that several roads which are prone to flooding are in a very poor condition and works need to be carried out sooner rather than later.
