THE thrill of St Patrick’s Day may have passed for another year but local shops, schools and sporting organisations were awarded this week for their participation in the Wicklow town parade.

Wicklow Montessori School was the overall winner of the best float or entry and received their award from Pascal Burke on behalf of Wicklow Town and District Chamber of Commerce.

The school’s parade entry was robot-themed, in celebration of their successful sixth class ‘Airbots’ team, recent winners of the UK and Ireland First Lego League Robotics championship in Bristol.

Forty pupils dressed in a wonderful variety of homemade robot costumes marched behind the float carrying the team. The Airbots are off to the USA in April where they will represent Ireland at the First Lego League World Championships taking place in Detroit.

Ashford Country Fair won the Best Musical Heroes theme, while the award for Best Club entry went to Wicklow Sailing Club.

The award for Most Original Float went to Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáin while the Eichnezell Brass Band were the Best Marching Band winners.

The Best Free Style Original Theme entry went to the Irish Dance Academy. MYTH Drama won Best Fancy Dress and Best School Entry winners were Wicklow Educate Together.

Aura Beauty Salon put a lot of thought into their display and were worthy winners of the Best Window Display.
