NEWTOWN JUNIORS

-

All our teams were in action last weekend apart from the Under 14’s, whose game was off due to school trips. Of the teams that played the Under 8’s hosted Rathnew Green in a keenly-contested series of games where among the players who starred for Newtown were Gerry Hoban and Colin Healy.

The Under 9’s were edged out narrowly in a high scoring game by Enniskerry as among their goalscorers were Leon O’Connor, JV Kelly, Leighton Byrne and Lucas Dowdall.

The 10’s travelled to take on Glencormac United and ran out winners against a gallant home side.

Among the goals were William Valentine, Max Roche, Daniel Eager and Ryan Collins while starring were Mikey Synnott and Nikita Neaga.

The 11’s enjoyed their trip to take on Arklow Town Red where Jake Robertson, William Valentine, Aidan Heffernan and Cathal O’Toole found the net. PJ Duffy and Cillian Coffey had excellent games.

The 12’s are happy campers this week after an excellent 4-0 away win against Ashford Rovers in the first leg quarter-final tie.

Patrick Martin with two and one each from Aaron Cawley abd Paudie Gammell did the damage while Iggy Szpilka, Hannah Martin and Max Synnott had excellent games.

Obviously some of the players had a win bonus inserted in their contracts according to the amount of them that were in Burger King after the game.

The team wishes the best of luck to Keira Farrelly who picked up a knock during the game.

Well done to all. We hope to see all at training Thursday night

Avonmore U-12A v. Wicklow Rovers U-12: A great win for our U-12A team against Wicklow Rovers in the first round of the cup. Conditions were poor with driving rain, but this didn’t deter our lads.

We knew Rovers would come at us strong, after losing twice to us and they didn’t disappoint. With some great football from both sides, we were first to put one away, when Leighton Doran shimmied past his player and scored. Continuing the pressure, Kian Fluskey found room and also stuck one away.

The second half was more of the same, but for the brave goalkeeping of the Rovers keeper we could have been a few more goals up. The work rate of the team was immense, Paddy Harper, Oscar Dowling and Mark O’Reilly deserving a mention. A brilliant performance tonight lads in very poor conditions, well done.
