Theatre with JB Priestley’s ‘An Inspector Calls’
TWO WICKLOW people will play top roles in St Patrick’s Dramatic Society production of ‘An Inspector Calls’ by JB Priestley.
The play will be on from Wednesday, April 18, until Saturday, April 21, in Dalkey Town Hall at 8 p.m
Director Joan E Gregg lives in Kilmacanogue and Seymour Cresswell, who plays Inspector Goole, lives in Bray.
The society cleaned up at the Bray One Act festival in January, winning Best Group, Best Comedy, Best Director (for Seymour Cresswell), Best supporting Actor and a Merit Award.
Set in 1912, the play, in which a middle-class Yorkshire family is called to account for its moral crimes by the enigmatic Inspector Goole, stands as a metaphor for our own failure to accept our responsibility to others.
An Inspector Calls opens as Arthur Birling (Peter Beamish) and his wife Sybil (Deirdre Burke) are celebrating the engagement of their daughter Sheila (Hannah Blair White) to wealthy man-about-town Gerald Croft (Kevin Lyons). Also present is their son Eric (Colm Kearns). During the evening, Inspector Goole (Seymour Cresswell) calls to the house to confront all those present about their involvement in the suicide of a young local woman.
Tickets are €15 and available from 01 2807185, aninspectorcalls.eventbrite.ie, and at the door.
