NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC
There were no WDSL fixtures last weekend as it was Easter. Four of our teams did take part in the Wicklow Cancer Support competition that took place on Good Friday in the Wicklow Townand Wicklow Rovers grounds. The teams that took part were our under-eights, 10’s, 11’s and 14’s and every player on those teams played to their best of their ability and enjoyed what was a well run competition by Tony Doran and his hard working group of helpers. Also in action from the club were Newtown Juniors FC players Hannah Martin, who captained the WDSL under-12 girls Academy team and Jack Coughlan, who was playing with the under-12 county squad. Well done, everyone.
The following are the fixtures for Thursday, March 5, to Sunday, March 8. under-14s at home to Glencormac Utd ko Thursday at 6.45 p.m. (Interim Final second Leg); under-eights away to Rathnew ko to be confirmed; under-nines at home to St Patrick’s ko Saturday at 11 a.m.; under-10s at home to Wicklow Rovers Blue ko Saturday at midday; under-11s – Fixture to be confirmed; under-12s away to Greystones B ko to be confirmed; under-14s away to Rathnew FC ko to be confirmed (Fixtures and ko times are subject to change)
Only one player from the club celebrates a birthday in the coming week and he is Jamie Fitzgerald from the under-12s. Happy birthday Jamie from everyone in Newtown Juniors FC All our teams are back in training now for the past couple of weeks. There are also a couple of slots on all our teams at the moment so if there are any girl’s or boys who would like to join the club please contact our secretary Hughie at 087 6987653 and he will provide you with all the information you will need.
Also in a new venture by the WDSL they have started a Girls Academy for all girl’s playing in the league that will also cater for girls who may not be a member of a club or a team. Training takes place for all age groups under-10, under-12 and under-14 at from 4.30 p.m. till 6 p.m. every Sunday evening. We had 29 Players still standing going into week seven but that number dropped by two to 27 Players thanks to the Watford vs Bournemouth game ending in a 2-all draw which included the winners of our last competition JP and Sorcha. Week eight Fixtures will be for next weekend of Sat.7th-Sun. April 8. You can follow the progress of the competition on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
The WDSL Fundraiser ‘The Kube’ will take place in the Parkview Hotel on Saturday, April 7. We have two participants namely John Dunleavy and Stephen Nolan, who will both be raising funds for our club through this event. If you can sponsor either John or Stephen for any amount no matter how small please contact any committee member for further information. Tickets to the event are €20 each but we have a number of tickets for sale at €10 per head which are on sale at a first come first served basis. Please support as all money raised will go back towards the youth of the area.
The club would like to extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Charlie Gray from Bray, who sadly passed away last week. Charlie apart from been a gentleman was a referee for years in the Wicklow and District Schoolboys/Girls League. May he rest in peace.
