Wicklow girls record facile victory over Kilkenny
WICKLOW are grouped with Kilkenny, Longford and Carlow in the Leinster under-16 ladies football championship and they can hardly expect to have as easy an outing again against either Longford or Carlow as they did against the unfortunate Cats.
The final scoreline tells the full story. Kilkenny were never really in the game.
From the time that Eimear O’Brien opened the scoring with a point in the first minute Wicklow were completely on top.
They led by 5-4 to 0-0 after ten minutes. By 20 minutes the score stood at 7-7 to 1-0 with Kilkenny centre-forward Sarah Barco having raised a green flag on 18 minutes. At half-time Wicklow led by 8-16 to 1-0.
In that first period Wicklow scored almost at will. From the level of organisation displayed, it is obvious that this squad of players has been prepared well. They were very comfortable with the ball in hand, supported one another extremely well and were very confident in all they did.
The second half continued in the same vein with the home side adding a further 6-8 to 0-2 from the Kilkenny ladies. Wicklow ran out winners on a final scoreline of 14-24 to 1-2.
The bench all got a run out during that second half. While its great to get such a comfortable start to the Leinster campaign, the Wicklow mentors need no reminding that its very unlikely that they will get things as handy again.
